Sitting at my desk, trying to switch gears during lunch, distracting myself from some meaningless b.s. going on in the background. My sister is thinking about getting back into a Jeep Wrangler and somehow from that I ended up on their website seeing how cheaply I could build a diesel Grand Cherokee. It’s bad enough you have to step up four trim levels in pricing to even see the 3.0L EcoDiesel listed as a powertrain option, but as I was going through the option packages details this stood out like a sore thumb...
So I get that prioritizing the ‘Trailer Tow Group’ in this package would affect other chassis hard points at the rear of the vehicle, and I realize that you could/should easily fit a shackle recovery point in the hitch receiver if needed, but seriously?.. The ‘Offroad Adventure II’ pkg deletes a tow hook?
No wonder automotive options packages are so effed up these days. They’ve got more in common with cable channel packages than cars with thinking like that.
Or am I just extra-pissy today ‘cause work sucks? I can fix that...

It’s probably to increase the departure angle.

usually the reciver hitch has a tow hookup on it already, could be it. since technically the off road package includes Tow pkg IV
But then again it is Jeep

I suspect that the tow package bolts to or interferes with the tow hook point.

If it makes you feel better the factory “tow hooks” are NOT rated recovery points anyway, so putting a shackle or pin in the receiver is the only way to go without new hooks or bumper anyway.

That’s actually an old picture. Here’s the current state of affairs.
Dammit. That’s not be enough the way today’s going...

Yeah, I know. I just wanted to get my harumphs for being crabby, I guess. Misery loves company and all that.
God forbid I have to go stand in line at the Post Office this afternoon. My grumblings will be the stuff of postal legends.

Shh! Don’t tell anyone I’m violating our company owner’s policy... No drinking before 4pm .
We close at 5pm CST. But being a Survey GPS dealer we sometimes use GMT.
Seriously.

Typically they share bolts, but on the LCs Toyota simply uses longer bolts to keep both.

on the land cruisers, they are pretty stout and can actually be used as recovery points too. I know the trailhawk GC gets rated hooks, but they are open (boo!)
